TEXT ON PICTURE:
CONNEMARA - CONMAICNE-MARA. THE DESCENDANTS OF CORMAC OF THE SEA - The name Conmaicne-mars
"The descendants of Cormac of the Sea", comes from
Cormac, son of Maev, Queen of Connaught. His descendants were settled in several districts in
Connaught, one of which - West of Lough Corrib and Lough Mask - was distinguished from the others by
the name of Connemara, or the sea-side Conmaicna. Connemara is a wild, beautiful county, with a deeply
indented coast-line, and views of the fine mountain range - the Twelve Pins. The people are mostly
Irish-speaking peasants of distinctive character, and their dress is full of rich colour.
