TEXT ON PICTURE:
MUCKROSS - MUC-ROS. THE PENINSULA OF THE PIGS - This is the mordern form of the old name
Muc-ros, "The Peninsula of Pigs". In olden times the thickly wooded Muckross peninsula,
with its arbutus trees, hollies, yews and oaks, may have been a most useful ground for feeding pigs,
and to this may be attributed its name. Muckross is celebrated for its Franciscan Monastery founded
in 1430 by MacCarthy Mor, and restored in 1626.
